Petrol or electric?

Unless you're the sort to have a drill press and oxy set in the shed, I'd recommend electric. Bolt-on proposition, and hub motors are far more efficient than a friction drive.

If I was going to stick a petrol engine on a pushie, I'd put a r/h crank on the left and use the existing drivetrain.
