I think it's 1.1mm compared to 2mm. Either way, shift cables are too light for braking. And the housings are different as well. Shift housing has longitudinally placed reinforcement for zero compression, brake housing has coiled reinforcement for better brake feel. I'd like to hear Climbo's comments on the shift cables he bought, as they're supposed to be some top stuff.
