Not so. Kids who don't play football well, don't for a number of reasons, of course. In this context, the most interesting is that innate skills vary considerably, from what I see in my eldest son to what I see in my youngest. Not to mention what you see on Youtube if you google "young Messi". Same goes with spatial awareness. Again, I need only draw on my sons. The eldest has a sublime touch, but rather poor awareness, and his two years younger brother is the exact opposite, while the youngest has none of it (a true nerd!). Further, very, very few kids at he age of 12 have the spatial awareness or the sense of the flow of the game you'll see in a typical 18 years old player, and very few 18 years old the talent to play like an experienced 25 year old. And you certainly can't just teach any 10 year old these things.

The same goes for cycling, of course.
