I am a recreational roadie/commuter. When I got my first road bike, I wanted to see how fast I could get it to go. One day, I went down about a 1/2 mile hill and just kept winding it up.

43.63 mph. Immediately after that, I started thinking about what would have happened had I crashed at that speed, and I don't try to go so fast anymore.
