Okay, fair enough. Three pointers on the date:

There is a date on the hub shell. Typically the year is two digits which are followed by a space and then the month in one or two digits. On pre-war models --I'm not sure when the AB was introduced, but this is true of AW's anyway-- the year may be a single digit, where 9 = 1939, 0 = 1940. After the war they used two digits, i.e. 48 = 1948.

Second, the driver in your photo is grooved for a 3-splined cog; these were introduced in 50's. The part is interchangeable, so possibly you have a 30's hub with a later driver; but the early driver is threaded and the cog screws on.

Third, the right axle nut in your photo has a round window in it; earlier ones have a square window.

The early shifter is a 'quadrant shifter' that is kinda expensive on ebay; but you can use any Sturmey Archer handlebar mounted "trigger shifter".

I have those, but these are not hard to find. You can probably find them nearer by.
