The last thing I'm going to do is suggest a particular lube. That's BF suicide!

But..application is key.

I'd suggest applying a little lube over the chain at the pulley wheels as you pedal backwards. Draw out a thin line out of the bottle one one side of the chain (at the plates) and then the other. Give the chain a good wipe down, spin it for a minute and then do it again.

What you don't need is lube on the plates and rollers. You need to work the lube between the rollers, pins and plates on the INSIDE of the chain. This is where wear occurs. The lube you need elsewhere will occur as a matter of course.

What you also don't need is excessive lube anywhere on your drivetrain. It will only serve to attract and hold abrasive materials and accelerate wear.
