SO, I am looking for a new bike. I'd like a step-through design, 7 or 8 speeds, internal gear hub (really like that about the Fusion), preferably a chainguard. Because we ride recreationally, I'd like something fairly lightweight. The upswept handlebars work well with the iBert, since I have to do less reaching around. My preference would be to spend less than $750, but I could go up to $1000.

You might like the breezer step-through. Although I didn't ride it, I did ask about it and looked it over pretty closely. At the low end of your price range, well constructed and appointed. It has a snappy modern chic appearance, too.
I'd be surprised if you don't have a dealer in Sacramento.
