Bikes: Old Steelies I made, Old Cannondales

Perhaps the flatlanders shoud have cassettes such as: 12-13-14-14-16-16-18-18-20-20.
Then you won't have useless gears, and it will take longer for your cassette to wear out since you have duplicate cogs to use.
