Possible pitfalls? - Using a frame with anykind of suspension, using a too small frame, handlebar stem compatibiltity (you can find drop pars to fit your mtb stem but the choices are limited) shift lever compatibilty with your handlebar choice, makin' it so fancy you won't want to abuse (I mean use) it as it was intended to be used and spending the next 6 months telling everyone they need one too.
