Car bike rack...Opinions Please!

Hey,

I had a traumatic experience with using a trunk mount bike rack before...so I've always been leary of getting another rack. I'd like to be able to transport my road bike and my mountain bike at the same time...The reason I'm posting in here is because damage to my Colnago pains me alot more than damage to my Kona MTB.

So, I've done some research and I have two options that I'm entertaining:

I have a 1995 Monte Carlo 2dr car, so keep that in mind.

1) put a hitch on my car and get the sportrack upright carrier...now this option doesn't seem that good since that rack is a bit big for the back of my car I think...but I dont know I don't have experience with it.

2) I emailed this online bike rack shop and I'll paste my reply I received below...I'm leaning towards this, does anyone on here have this rack?

vehicle year: 1995
vehicle manufacturer: Chevy
vehicle model: Monte Carlo 2door

Hello Chad,

Thanks for contacting ORS Racks Direct regarding your gear carrying needs!

MULTI-PURPOSE ROOF RACK BASE SYSTEM
1) The Thule 400XT Aero Complete Roof Rack Base System will fit your vehicle perfectly and is very quick to install (easy-to-follow instructions included). No matter what gear attachments you plan to carry on your roof, you will need a multi-purpose roof rack base system. You will attach the bike, kayak and ski carriers to the 400XT front and rear load bars.

1b) Note that your vehicle will require the Thule Short Roof Adaptor Kit in combination with the Thule 400XT Aero. The Short Roof Adaptor Kit quickly installs and provides stability and the extra length needed between the front load bar and the rear load bar when transporting any type of gear such as bikes, etc.
