I think a lot of sports can seem boring if you don't watch them regularly, because there can be subtle strategy stuff that (to me) is really interesting but takes some time to understand. I don't watch track so I don't understand some of the events, and the few events I've watched haven't even had announcers so there were no explanations about what was going on.
Hell, I was watching a lot of snooker (a confusing billiards game) the past couple weeks and I never would have thought I'd find that interesting, but it was.
What I love about road cycling is the weird combination of a team sport with individual winners, the strategy that evolves as a result, and the feats of individual greatness/heart/all that schlocky sports stuff. I love some of the personalities, and Andy Schleck is dreamy (LOL). A lot of the pros are on Twitter too -- really them, not handlers or agents -- and it's cool the way they just tweet about whatever and it makes them seem more real and gives me people to root for.
I hate that drugs continue to mar the sport, though.
