I am 5'10" and weight 180 lbs and have set a budget under $500.
After moderate research here, I found a couple bikes that could work for me. I am leaning strongly towards the Dahon or Citizen. Am I the only one that thinks the Citizen looks feminine?
Citizen Gothem1: $289
Dahon Speed Uno
: $400
Downtube Nova: $300
Tern THe basic One $450
I am having a hard time deciding on getting a folder with or without hand brakes.
Any other lower price point manufacturers I should look into?
Thanks,
Check out Kent Giordano $229; 25lbs:

Origamibicycles.com are good deal as well (when the are in stock

)
If you ask me all folders do not look masculine. I do agree with you that Citizen frame colors, large bell option or colored tires do reinforce that opinion. I think the major problem with Citizen is that their advertised weight is not accurate (they don't shy away from using steel).
Regarding the brakes, I think any bike with just a coaster brake is not safe for few reasons: longer reaction time, no brake when chain snaps, rear brake is much less efficient than front.
