I own 2 pairs of bibs, 2 pairs of quality shorts, and many other shorts. I like bibs, but like some others here, not 100% sold on them. Here in the AZ desert, every layer on my skin is just more to make me sweat.

Maybe I'd feel different if the sizing was a little better. I'm 5'11", 170#, 30" waist. For shorts I can wear size M (possibly S), but for bibs I need L because of the straps. I don't get quite the same compression on my legs. One of my bibs and shorts are the exact same brand/model, just one in the shorts version, one in bibs version, the shorts are M/bibs are L.

Depending what I'm riding (hills, flats), how far, who with, etc I'll make a decision which to wear. If I'm doing longer but more flat, I'll go with shorts, if I'm doing more climbing I'll go with the bibs.

And I haven't figured out how to pee while wearing bibs without taking off my jersey (at least 1 sleeve), taking off a shoulder strap, and pulling down. Definitely more awkward than simply pulling down the front of shorts.
