Not to hijack this thread, but I like your point about dropping/banging the bike, damaging fragile components. Regarding my Dahon Dream thread, I was making a trigger shifter an important factor in hub selection. But, now I see the benefit of a twist shifter. (Less protrusion, potential to snag or snap when folded and carried/dropped, etc.).
