I was riding my Proteus touring bike. When accelerating after the light turned green, my chain broke. The broken chain whipped around and caught between the freewheel and the spokes. The wheel kept turning and pulled the RD up and around, which bent, and then broke the dropout.
I was able to unclip quickly and clear the intersection by carrying the bike. I then walked the mile and a half home.
I called Yellow Jersey, and they gave me a reasonable quote on replacing the dropout and repainting.
For now, my daily rider is the Cannondale SR400 that I rode for 24 years. Fast and agile, but not comfortable.
