I was lucky enough to have a cheap Shimano derailer on there when my chain got pushed into the spokes, and the derailer broke cleanly across the B-knuckle.
Of course it was the cheap derailer that caused the problem in the first place, when the cage pivot ejected from the A-knuckle on the last lap of a race.
The wheel was damaged but the frame survived. The race was a total loss.
