Government can do more than one thing at once, and already has numerous regulations in place regarding the safety features of cars and trucks. That's a good thing, as the industry failed for decades to produce a safe product without such regulation in place. I don't see any reason government shouldn't continue to write new regulations for vehicles as needs evolve.
I suggest you get busy on petitioning someone from congress. I would be curious where one could find how many accidents are caused from the increase in blind spots due to the larger pillars. Do the pillars that contain side air bags trump smaller pillars that have less of a blind spot?
