Arch supports in cycling shoes, I agree, are pointless. As one with flat feet, I feel I am qualified to comment on that at a high level. So I do see your point on how the foot works differently in running compared to cycling.

The general gist is that if you walk and/or run properly, your feet will feel better in all other activities, cycling included. To aid in this, orthotics can help, just not directly in cycling.
