Least expensive computer with gps maps/directions?

So I was out for a ride today and the wire connecting my bike computer to the cadence/speed sensors broke (also my chain fell off my big chainring to between the rings and the pedal - but I was at the top of a hill and able to coast the last couple hundred yards home - so all in all, it was a pretty crappy ride). So anyway, I'm thinking about a new computer.

I'm just a recreational rider so I don't really need heart rate or anything like that at this time.

What I do like to do is go out for a ways and get myself lost and then pull out a map or just by guessing find my way back home again to explore new areas/routes. Since I need a new computer anyway, I was wondering if ones with gps that have turn by turn directions have come down to more reasonable prices. I mean you can get a tomtom or something for fairly cheap. Are there any similarly inexpensive options for the bike?

As a note, I don't have a smart phone (or actually any cell phone other than the pay as you go phone I take with me for emergencies only), so an app isn't going to work.

thanks.
