Saw The Craziest Vintage Bike Last Night At Ride Of Silence

Crazy as in the bike and the condition. It was a C&V moment for sure. So we 16 gathered in the local pavillion for the Ride Of Silence, a good mix of bikes and bikers and styles of riding. There were three of us with vintage bikes, mine being the "new" one of those three.

The bike that grabbed my attention was a repainted Dawes that was in "pristine" barn patina condition. There was dust measureably thick and 40yr old grease on the chainstays of this beautiful 10sp. The front wheel had a broken spoke twisted around another (felt like a kid again ). I asked the man how long he has had the bike and he replied that it was given to him because he didnt have a bike to ride and the guy didnt want it. So he flips the sponge-gripped drops upward and rides the bike like a fixie. I drafted paceline close to him smiling and sometimes quietly chuckling with joy looking at that old Dawes still on the road.

The other C&V was a repainted, refurbished Greco (?) in very nicely done equipment.

It was a fun ride and getting to know more bikers in our area was priceless.
