Just had a flat yesterday on the trails. Its one thing to ride down the drop and the pedal up the other side. However it sucks to walk down the hill and climb the other side with your bike up on your shoulder. I was hoping to work on my climbing, but on my bike. Found that when my rear wheel was rebuilt, there is no Velox (I had asked for it) and they put the wrong size tube. Cheap-o rubberband for a rim strip moved and stretched out tube met mister spoke nipple. Going to the LBS today after some zen time.
Flats seems to come around like that guy or girl you unfortunately know. The one you barely know, yet runs up and is all buddy buddy with you. Then ask if you can buy him/her a beer, since he/she is broke. Closely tied with annoying coworker.
I once heard someone referring to flats as that annoying relative. If you know he/she is going to be at some family function, then you will do whatever you can to get out of going. And that is basically how he saw tire liners, slime, and all the other flat prevention products.
