I saw an add for a Peugeot PX10 in the local kijiji (online classifieds). The seller said he would take offers and wait about a week. I bid first and asked a bunch of questions about the bike. The seller was more than happy to answer what he could and we developed a bit of a repor. Anyway, he offered to let me match the highest offer. Great guy to deal with, very honest and helpful.
I made sure to post to this list to ask the experts about the details (being very careful not to post the seller's link :-) ). After a week of waiting, I received the bike today. The seller dropped it off at my place. Great service!
First impressions:
Condition: this bike has no rust or corrosion on it. There is very little grime. Clearly, this bike was rarely ridden. The paint is in excellent condition. The lugs have bronze edge painting, which I thought was rust. Some discolouring of the lugs. The decals are very good, except for the reynolds 531. It was green at one point. The fork stickers are largely gone.
Components: full campy! (I thought this was a french bike)
-bar end shifters
-record hubs
-nuovo record RD
-record FD
-(super?) record brakes and levers
-strada crank (small chain ring seems quite large 46?)
-campy pedals, campy toe clips with straps and buttons! (The straps and buttons are not campy)
-campy head set
-Zeus cassette 13-21 (hardly any wear marks on it)
-Cinelli stem (very long)
-Cinelli drop bars, beautiful crest Giro D'Italia
-cloth bar tape in good condition
-Seat is some modern thing that will be replaced with a period correct brooks (well a 70s brooks, as close as I can get)
-wheels: NISI rims tubular, tires have no wear, but may be too old "Clement"
I haven't test driven it yet to test for alignment. I will be replacing these with clinchers rims, so I am not too worried. I have to pull some wheels off my pinarello and test drive it.
-Bottom bracket shell has a bolt on it with the serial number 927247 (back filled with bronze paint)
-Seat post was stuck, but some wd40 and then rubbing alcohol freed it up. I hope the stem is not as stuck.
I am very happy with the bike!
Questions:
Date? I am thinking 1967, probably not earlier
Seat post bolt is a quick release, kind of strange.
