1kg tire + tube (ouch)

Today, I replaced the tires and the tubes that came on my touring bike (2009 Jamis Aurora). I had around 3K miles on these and thought that they could use a bit of freshening up.

When I took the tires/tubes off, I was shocked. Combined they weighed a bit under 1 kg each. The tires are Vittoria Randonneur and the tubes were the thickest and heaviest tubes I had ever seen.

I put a set of 700x28 Conti Grand Prix + Michelin tubes at a weight of roughly 400g.

And then went for a 21 mile hilly ride. Wow, it's as if I am riding a brand new and much lighter bike. I hope they remain flat free like the tires I took off.
