After I broke my hip I had to use a walker for a couple of months. Since our condo is multi-level that ment converting our living room into an all purpose room for me to sleep in.
We also have 2 steps up to our front door. I had a carpenter build a step extension so I could go into and out the front door with my walker. Within a week I got a letter from the condo association complaining of the "unauthorized exterior modification". Eventually I removed it but I wonder what they would do if I needed one permanently.
Arming yourself with Americans with Disability Act would help you out.
