I went from a Navigator to a Jamis Coda Elite in 2007 and have never been sorry. I also have a Scott Speedster drop bar bike and a Felt 29'er mtn bike. Still ride the Coda the most of the three. Does the Coda still have steel frame? If so, the comfort/springy factor of the steel frame is very nice.
