If you go compact, and maybe swap to a 28 tooth, you might get away with the same chain & rear derailleur ... maybe.
Can't you pull one of the rear cogs and replace it with a 34t? New derailleur yeah but I like having that sudden drop on the lowest gear better than a third chainring. Though if you can do it upfront with 2 chainrings and without a megarange gear, that's better. (Well, dunno, if you crosschain to the biggest cog from the big chainring, a megarange gear suddenly makes a hell of a lot of sense in almost any use case)
