Yes, those will work with conventional toe straps, but you might have to fashion some sort of strip across the ball of the foot, maybe leather, where a cleat would go on an old style shoe, to grab the pedal cage. Otherwise these may slip around a bit if you don't have the straps super tight. Plastic soles. Maybe your local cobbler can fix something up. As to what they sold for or worth? No idea. I wouldn't worry about that if it were me. It's the thought that counts.
