Help instally Fork?

So, I've decided after 20 yrs of letting a Bike shop do all my work, I am going to become self sufficient. Here is my question.

I have a NOS Specialized 2007 Carbon Fiber Cross bike frame and fork. It has an integrated headset I think. It has no exposed bearing races like on my other bikes, it looks all internal. Anyway when installing the fork what holds it to the frame? Is the clamp on stem simply holding the fork tight, or is there some kind of star nut I need to know about? Its a 1 1/8 th carbon steerer tube. I know I'm a dumb ass for asking but I'm trying to learn.
