To be serious for a second, I'm not sure I agree with your logic. If the OP had a $1200 budget, he wouldn't be looking at this bike. He should be comparing this to other $500 bikes. At that point, only some come with discs. The shifting and suspension may or may not be better. The OP should try it for him or herself.
And the $500 bikes that come with discs will come with crappy discs. And no way will the suspension be better than a Recon, unless the Recon is dead. You won't get an LX drivetrain either. If it's true that he didn't ride it much, I'd take it.
