the constant refrain around here that a bikedirect chro-mo frame is automatically better than any hi-ten frame is not quite true. i suggest you take this post about a kilo wt from another thread into consideration...

I love this bike and did a seriously ghetto fix to my frame to keep it going - JB weld of seat post in the seat tube to span the crack (after talking w/ local frame builders who would have charged me a fortune to do a groove weld to fix it). It seems to be holding after 400 miles so it is OK, just the seat height is no longer negotiable.

Do research, then more research, then some more when buying on BD.
