Problem with me is that I end up increasing my effort because in my mind I'm trying to maintain some sort of average speed, or if I'm commuting I would want to get there within a certain amount of time. Or maybe I just want to get over the hill and to the downhill side sooner. So I end up pedaling harder on the uphills to try to maintain some kind of respectable speed (to me, at least 10 mph) or time, and end up getting tired quicker I think.
