Usualy do dates, fig bars, nuts, and fruit like oranges/apples. But on a long days ride I really rely on a big breakfast of all the good stuff like bacon, eggs, biscuit and gravy... Then an hour later try to eat another. Can't say enough about the morning meal.

I hit the wall the other day, with a big mountain to go, and a scary fast descent after that, about 20 miles to the campground with no towns. Low on water(drank over four liters on that day)and misjudged the fig bars, apples and nuts so was out. Walked a bit while the world pulsated around me, and was really streching the water. When I got to the little river store that I was going to resupply at I was hurting bad.
The store is run by some hippy health nut types, and while they did have gatorade I really don't like it much. They had and recomended this stuff http://www.gleukos.com/

Bought a couple bottles and staggered out to drink one. The pomegranite tasted terrible, even as thirsty as I was, but sipped it along with some water. About ten to fifteen minutes later I was a new man. It really worked well. Bought a couple more for the next days ride home, and am now trying to get the local health market to carry it. Might just buy the powder online.
