It will just keep getting better from here. I bought my first adult bike and got back into riding in Miami back in the previous century (Kendall area, when it was on the edge of civilization). Riding in that town was "challenging" to say the least. Be careful!
What shop did you get it from? Going on rides with the Everglades Bike Club was a very good experience--fun and learned much quicker than riding by myself.

Dress conspicuously
batcat...I got the bike from Coral Way Bike Shop. My Monday ride was around the Kendale Lakes golf course...as you know it is a gathering place (so that would be the safest riding area). As far as the city riding, it has only gotten worse. I could be wearing a suit on fire and it wouldn't help.
As far as getting in a riding club, I am a little hesistant since most I have seen have road bikes and I am not sure if I could keep up. Maybe down the road...possibly change the bar.
