My current bike is a pile of sheet; the chain comes off regularly, only THREE of the 18 gears work, the steering handle occasionally twists around (steering handles turn to the left = wheel doesnt move) the front brake doesn't work and there is no front deraileur at all (it was removed )

I mean, sure, it only cost £150 at halfords ... i dunno what i should have expected tbh

So I've decided that instead of trying to repair this lost-cause of a bike, I want to buy another one, BUT I'm doing research into which bike I should get & what features the bike will need

so far i've for this info:
- front suspension GOOD, back suspension BAD
- lightweight alloy frame is best
- disk breaks (front/back)
- 18+ gears

is this correct? or is there anything else i might need

also, could anyone recommend a good entry level bike? ^^
