I have a big mental block when it comes to riding in soft running shoes because of the pain from the foot curving around the pedal on these old style pedals. The rear "bar" is usually raised and that causes a problem along with the fact they dont grip the shoes too well. The first 80s and 90s "cross trainer" (for multi sports) sneakers all had a groove in the sole that was there to "grip" these older touring clip pedals.
I think I'll stick clipless or with mountain style flats that are low profile.
