I ride urban bike paths from my front door. When I want to do rural rides I have to drive about 7 miles in one of two directions for my starting off point. While urban biking doesn't bother me suburban biking does. The bike paths to where I want to go are glorified sidewalks with a lot of side streets and entrances and exits from parking lots. These folks are not looking for bicycles!

I drive a Ranger pickup with a topper and the road bike gets loaded in the back for the trip. No worries about security and the only problem is that the bike can get a little dusty.
