I like vintage bikes alot but in this case, go modern.

The Trek 1000 was an aluminum frame and is not considered real special today though it was quite popular in its day. If it's well preserved it is a smooth bike and should have lots of miles left.

I'd go with the newer bike though. If they're the same price then the Trek is over-priced or the Raleigh under. Vintage steel Treks are collectable but not so much the 1000. Get the modern drivetrain and get rolling.
