Update time. While I'll probably end up doing a more practical superbe/cyclone Suntour triple build with drop bars & a rack, I thought I'd set it up as a townie single speed before too much of summer slips away. I don't know what the motivation was, but I had this perverse fantasy of building it up exclusively with French bits (to stick it to the man or whatever). Didn't quite get there (Campy hubs, Japanese pedals/stem/bar/seat tube), but special appearances are made by MAFAC, Stronglight, & Ideale.
I still have a bit to do:
-First thing is to hook up the rear brake
-Skinwall 700x28 Pasela TG's whenever the price is right
-Remove the Open Pro sticker eyesores.
-Brown cotton tape + twine + shellac
I'd REALLY like to not have to dish the wheel (only to have to re-dish it when it goes geared), so I might find a freewheel spacer. The chainline is way closer than I anticipated.
I went on a very short ride, and while the frame fits like it was made for me (and I'd like to think it was), the bar/stem combo led to an insanely twitchy ride. I couldn't imagine reaching for downtube shifters with such an upright position. I might move the brake levers up a bit, then chop off the extra ~2" of handlebar.
