Day 34/Ride 30. 101 miles. Front went thru night before yesterday so today wasn't bad - high was ~88F. Rode Harahan-LaPlace-Manchac and back. Bike seemed to roll smoother/faster today than yesterday for some reason. I didn't do any special maintenance on it yesterday and didn't even add air today prior to riding. Shrug. Who knows?
Long-sleeve cooling sleeves are working out as far as preventing sunburn. I hate sunscreen on my face but it's a necessity. I've had to start wearing a head covering under the helmet as sun is finding its way to my scalp thru the helmet air vents. The problem with that, of course, is any covering traps heat. And my neck's been getting slightly burned too so the head covering had to extend to protect that. None of this is truly surprising//it's all to be expected, actually. It's just a pain to deal with especially since they have to be washed out daily. Sigh. I can be such a baby.
After yesterday's ride, I watched a documentary film I found on Amazon instant videos called The Ride where Phil Keoghan, a TV personality, had done a cross country ride fto raise money MS doing about 100 miles a day. Sounded somewhat familiar and I figured, what the heck? Motivational video?!? It was okay. Seemed to be more about the organizational and riding for a cause aspects than about the challeges facing an individual doing the ride - except when he fell crossing some railroad tracks. And he wasn't riding alone - had a sizeable support crew/entourage.
