If I were going for four months, I'd definitely take my own road bike. Not quite the same, but my employer is sending me to Thailand late this summer for four weeks. To get my riding fix, I purchased a Bike Friday that breaks down to fit into a standard sized suitcase. Kind of expensive, but I'll have wheels whenever I want to ride. The geometry is the same as my road bikes ... just small wheels.
