The State of Washington will reimburse employees $.52 p/mile to use a personal car for state business. I use that figure to calculate the money I save cycling. At 0500 this morning, as I started out in a dumping rain, I said to myself "Hey, it's another 7 dollar day." Riding 4-5 days a week, I find it hard to spend my savings without buying another bike or parts now and then... My commute is 5-10 minutes longer cycling than driving but when I get here, I have a shower at state expense. It's a bargain all around.
