"Campagnola" components were made in North Korea in the late 70's to very early 80's. They were produced with forging/casting equipment and molds from East Germany. The East Germans gave up on any ideas of trying to muscle into the Euro bike component market when one of their industrial spies was caught in the Vincenza factories taking pictures of the latest prototypes for the upcoming NR and SR groups. After some good ole head slapping with a big Mortadella suasage, the spy spilled the beans. The equipment and molds were on a train to North Korea in a week after the spy was caught to avoid an expanding international incident. A few sets of the Campagnola gruppos were seen on some of the North Korean track bikes in the next Olympics. The Italian team protested, but the Olympic officals let them race anyway with mediocre results caused by equipment failures (Some say that they saw some cracks on the crankset spiders after the races.....I guess they copied those Campy cranks pretty good....). Some sets were found in bicycle dealerships in India and the far east and all the way to Romania but production ceased almost as quickly as it started when Kim Jong Il's father had the North Korean Army and Air Force take over the factories to produce aluminum replacement parts for their MIG21 fleet. So a few orphan Campagnola components are still floating around as remnants of the cold war.......
