I'm just curious because I don't really have the chance to mtn bike.
Started out on road bikes around age of 23, riding seriously for 15 yrs (10 of which I raced, 5 of that I did racing and centuries). Lost the fun in racing/training 5/6 days a wk so I dropped riding altogeter in 1999. Got deeper into slow pitch softball (which lasted for 19 yrs). When retired from softball in '08, torn cartilage in both knees by that point, did a 6 mile MTB ride at a park while on vacation, happy that I had no knee pain on the bike. Since then, now happy to ride MTB and my hybrid (got it last August) on the road for fitness. Riding feels so happily informal now that I wear cargo MTB shorts w/ my SPD pedal/shoe kit. Feels like I'm riding for fun in retirement. I ride evary Sat/Sun, 12 months a yr for fitness - still serious, but less formal, and more options of road (80%), or MUP. Love it!! I read this b/c of being a highly experienced, once-dead serious, married-to-the-bike, never-wave-to-a-person-on-a-MTB, always-was-dressed-to-impress, former racer/roadie.
