Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!

The sensor at the lower end of the wire probably has a line or hash mark molded into it. That line should be centered on the wheel magnet where it sweeps past it. Also the magnet and sensor should be about 1/8" apart when they pass. Too far and the sensor won't register the magnet's pulse.
