If you are getting a dog please check you home owners insurance policy for exclusions or cause for cancellation of the policy due to certain breeds of dogs. In Florida they could (Can?) cancel you for owning a Rottweiler, Doberman Pinscher, German Shepard (Alsatian), pit bull (bull terrier) and a few others. Not sure if your state insurance laws allow this but better safe than sorry.
