It's as big a deal as you want to make it. Frankenbikes can be turned into dreamy riders pretty easily, cheaply with used parts off of eBay, etc. You are probably making it worse for her talking about the bike as if it's a total loss, encourage her by focusing on how great the bike is going to be after receiving a little TLC.
