Please don't take this as an insult, but a critisism that I think has to be made...

If at any point you thought spraying your brakes with WD40 was a good idea, you really should not do any work on your bike without having a much more experienced person check it out before riding.

Also, if you bought a brand new bike, it probably came with a service warranty of some sort and the shopr where you bought it will probably repair it for free... if you bought the bike at a LBS.
