My Raleigh International with Campy NR would complain if I tried and 53-21 combination. 70's engineering and materials, I tried a complete cross chain last night on my CAAD 10 4 (Rival with a 50/34 compact and an 11-26 cassette) after this thread yesterday just to see what would happen. Some vague clicking, probably from the RD cage on the chain if I had to guess, was all I heard. Still I have a personal bias on that extreme angle for the chain's side plates against the pins from all my years doing failure analysis on steel connections and bolts on buildings. Just the engineer's disease I have had and I understand is terminal.
