Right now here in Sioux City there is a construction project going on. The old Stockyards building, which used to be the largest single story structure in the U.S. at one time has been demolished in favor of a new commercial shopping center. We are finally getting a Home Depot & other commercial businesses we currently do not have yet. The name of the new center will be The Yards, how creative huh? This is an old area of Sioux City. The old stockyards building is no longer needed. The packing house industry is not what it used to be & these days the slaughter & processing plants that are still here have the livestock delivered directly to the plants, there is no longer a need for the old method of going to the stockyards building to select the animals.
With the disappearance of the old building the area finally smells a whole lot better then it did, which is good for Sioux City's image.
When the project started later this year it was announced the street would be opened & closed accordingly. When it happens it would be announced in all of the media venues. Which means in the paper, on the TV news during all of the news casts & on the radio.
But, for the time being it is not so great for me when I commute to work by bike. For the past couple of weeks I had been taking a differant route because the street had been closed that goes by the old stockyards area. No big deal even though the route that goes along the old stockyards is easier. Then the street was reopened. I found out bytaking a drive down to the old stockyards to see. I did not hear or see it on the news like promised by the folks in chargge of the project, so it was a pleasant surprise. So I started taking that route to work instead.
Then this morning the street had been closed again. I mean there was no way through. I had to turn around & back track. Being almost late for work I was not happy about it. All because these idiots did not announce it in the news. I can imagine the motorists who were upset about it too. Some of which I had to deal with while we were all trying to get turned around. Not exactly a safe situation. I think from now on I will just take the route I started with. At least I know that will not be closed off.
Anyone else ever have to deal with crap like this when they commute? What do you do about it?
Thanks for letting me vent.
John
