I'm not trying to blame the victim.

I was hooked several years ago and thankfully not injured seriously. But it did make me realize how easily something like that can happen. That fact that it wasn't my fault would be of little comfort to my family if I were killed. My safety is something I need to own. I can't depend on other people to always act within the law.

My guess is that if the cyclist survives and recovers both physically and psychologically enough to ride again, he will be lit up like a Christmas tree.

Looking at the footage though I'm not sure if it would have helped. The driver might have been drunk or simply not looking, - texting perhaps?
